Kelly grew up in a hairdressing family. He has spent over two decades in all aspects of the industry, including coloring, cutting, barbering, runway, editorial, platform, teaching, managing, owning, and speaking. Recently, he moved away from the chair to concentrate on ownership and mentoring cutting apprentices, managers, and salon owners. Kelly currently owns two luxury salons (Immortal Beloved) and four men’s grooming salons (Barber of Hell’s Bottom) in Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA. Kelly takes pride in the innovation of all business practices and is dedicated to the Kaizen philosophy of small, continuous improvements. He has been known to give a talk or two, but mostly prefers to concentrate on his businesses. Kelly puts guest hospitality above everything else, which is reflected in his concept of elevated barbering: the barber and the guest work together to achieve the best possible look for the guest, not the barber.
